Vote for Gauges
How to vote, cooldowns, and what your vote does.
Steps
- Hold veYB (see Lock YB for veYB).
- yieldbasis.com → Governance → Gauges.
- Allocate your voting power across gauges. Total ≤ 100%.
- Confirm. Your vote takes effect immediately — gauge weights update in real time, no epoch delay.
Cooldown
Per-gauge re-vote cooldown: 10 days (864,000 seconds). You can adjust across different gauges freely within that window; you cannot re-vote the same gauge more frequently. Purpose: prevents rapid flip-flopping that would destabilise emission routing and blunts vote-buying games around single epochs.
What the vote does
- Determines each gauge's raw share of weekly YB emission. Raw weight sums over all voters'
user_weights × veYB_balance_at_vote_time. - Feeds into the adoption-adjusted weight via
adjusted_weight = raw_weight × sqrt(staked / lt_total_supply). A gauge with low staking participation gets less than its vote share would suggest. This is an adoption incentive, not an IL hedge. See Gauges & Emissions. - Carries over week-to-week until changed. You do not need to re-vote every epoch to maintain your position.
Your vote's weight is proportional to your current veYB balance. Infinite locks (no decay) have steady weight; term locks weight less as their end approaches.
If a gauge is deprecated or killed
Markets get deprecated. When a market is wound down, governance kills its gauge (deprecated markets carry a Deprecated badge in Analytics). Killing changes what you can do with your vote:
- You can't add or increase weight on it. A vote with any weight above zero reverts with
Killed, and the Gauges page won't let you allocate to it. - Your existing vote does not move on its own. Killing a gauge does not zero your weight. Whatever you allocated stays parked there.
- Move weight off killed gauges. Stakers leave a deprecated market, so its emissions fall toward zero and your vote there earns nothing.
What to do: set that gauge's weight to 0 to release it, then allocate the freed power to a live gauge. A weight of 0 is allowed on a killed gauge — the block only applies to positive weights. The 10-day cooldown still applies, so if you voted on that gauge within the last 10 days, wait out the remainder before zeroing it.
You can't transfer or move your veYB while any voting power is still allocated — including weight parked on a killed gauge. Zero out every vote first.
Why you need to revisit your votes
Re-check your allocation periodically:
- Killed or deprecated gauges trap your weight. Move it off as markets retire (above).
- Term-lock weight decays. Your vote weight tracks your veYB, and a term lock's veYB falls as it nears expiry — your influence shrinks with it and reaches zero when the lock ends. Extend or re-lock, then re-vote, to restore it. Permalocks don't decay.
- New gauges get added. New markets launch with their own gauges. Your existing allocation doesn't include them; re-vote if you want to back them.
- Adoption shifts. A gauge's emission share scales with how much of its market is staked (
sqrt(staked / supply)). If a gauge you backed loses stakers, your weight there routes fewer emissions — reallocating to active gauges keeps your vote productive.
